Therapy

Depression & Anxiety Disorders

Depression & Anxiety

Depression, fear, and anxiety are some of the most common and uncomfortable emotions that we can experience at some point in our lives. Depression and anxiety disorders are different, but  commonly occur together and have similar treatments: counseling (psychotherapy) or medication, such as antidepressants, or both. People with depression often experience symptoms similar to those of an anxiety disorder, such as nervousness, irritability, and problems sleeping and concentrating. Each disorder has its own causes and its own emotional and behavioral symptoms. Through counseling and treatment, you can often recover motivation, perspective, and joy that you once had in your life.

PTSD or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Trauma & PTSD

PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, is a psychiatric disorder that can occur following the experience or witnessing of a life-threatening events such as military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, serious accidents, or physical or sexual assault in adult or childhood. PTSD sufferers often develop additional disorders such as depression, substance abuse, problems of memory and cognition. The disorder is also associated with impairment of the person’s ability to function in social or family life, including occupational instability, marital problems and divorces, family discord, and difficulties in parenting.

Most survivors of trauma return to normal given a little time. However, some people will have stress reactions that do not go away on their own, or may even get worse over time. PTSD can be treated with psychotherapy and medicines such as antidepressants. Early treatment is important and may help reduce long-term symptoms.

Medication Management

Medication Management

Medication management helps to promote the safe use of medications and help people achieve the best results from their treatment. For those with mental health disorders, medication management is often an important part of the recovery process when used in an effective way as part of the overall treatment.  Like any medication, psychotherapeutic medications do not produce the same effect in everyone. Some people may respond better to one medication than another. Some may need larger dosages than others. Some have side effects, and others do not. Age, sex, body size, body chemistry, physical illnesses and their treatments, diet, and habits such as smoking are some of the factors that can influence a medication’s effect.
